U.S. 8th graders in 35 states outperformed the international average in math. The findings come from a National Center for Education Statistics study that uses the scores of 8th graders on the 2011 National Assessment of Educational Progress to predict their performance on the 2011 Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS). The study concludes that although the majority of states are performing quite well, others still have much room for improvement before they can reach the international average.
